The information presented in therapy is personal and confidential. All information between the therapist and the client is held strictly confidential unless:
1. The client authorizes a release of information with their signature.
2. The client presents physical danger to themself.
3. The client presents physical danger to others.
4. Child and/or elder abuse (including sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and financial abuse) is suspected.
5. Your insurance company requests an audit of my documentation, which could include progress notes, treatment plans, and intake assessments.
6. According to the Maryland Attorney General’s Opinion of 1993, if an adult client reports that they were abused as a child, the act must be reported. This applies to clients in Maryland only.
I am required by law to inform potential victims and legal authorities so that protective measures can be taken. In addition, while names and identifying information are not used, you need to be aware of the fact that I may seek consultation regarding your case. I believe this provides the best level of care.
**Even if you are not an established client, please know that if you contact me and share anything listed above I am mandated to report that information.**
Communication between provider and client will occur VIA encrypted, HIPAA complaint mediums using the patient portal and encrypted email. I do NOT accept friend requests on any social media site as it may blur the boundaries of our therapeutic relationship. If you need to contact me between sessions, please use the patient portal messaging feature.
